Assign Numbers

Syntax

Assign Numbers field_name

Parameters

  • field_name: The database field that Assign Numbers writes the numbers into, for example BIB. If no field has that name, an Error message starting with "Can't find field" appears; after OK, the listing runs as a normal listing and no numbers are assigned.

Description

Assign Numbers writes sequential numbers into a field for every record the listing selects, for example to give a group of runners new bib numbers. Records are numbered in the order a listing shows them, and each number is right-justified in the field. The change goes straight into the database: a listing run afterwards shows the new numbers.

When numbering finishes, a RunScore message shows the last number assigned, for example "Last number assigned: 205" (padded with spaces to the field's width). Press OK to close it.

Remarks

  • To give each group its own range, run one Assign Numbers listing per group, with Select choosing the group and Starting Number and Ending Number setting the range.
  • If Select matches no records, Assign Numbers changes nothing, but the message still appears and shows a value that is not a number (for example "Last number assigned: w").
  • Starting Number: the first number Assign Numbers gives.
  • Ending Number: the last number Assign Numbers gives; numbering stops there even when more records match.

Examples

Give bibs 201 to 205 to the first five female runners, in listing order:

Select SEX
= F
Starting Number 201
Ending Number 205
