.Include

Syntax

.Include filename | ?prompt_message

Parameters

  • filename: The name of another RunScore listing file (.LST or .RSM) whose contents are to be inserted at this point.
  • ?prompt_message: A message preceded by a question mark (?). This will prompt the user to enter text when the listing is run, and the entered text will be inserted at this point.

Description

Inserts the content of another file or user-provided text into the current listing file during processing.

Remarks

The command name is recognized as the first whitespace-delimited token, but the filename or ?prompt_message is still read from column 21 onward (same fixed-width argument split as other listing commands). A single space after .Include is not enough -- pad so the argument starts at column 21.

This is useful for reusing common blocks of commands (like headers, footers, or field lists) across multiple reports. When used with a prompt message (e.g., within a Header block), it allows for dynamic text entry when generating the report.

Examples

To include a common header file:

Header
.Include RACENAME
.End of Header

To include a standard list of fields:

.Include FIELDLST

To prompt the user for input within a header:

Header
.Include ?Enter MALE or FEMALE
.End of Header
